Türkiye's 2027 annual government programme sets out new steps in its national space programme, led by the Moon Research Project and domestic satellite development. The headline target is a first contact with the Moon in 2027.
Preparations will also begin for a space weather centre, known as UHUM, to monitor and model conditions in space. Solar storms can shorten the life of satellites and disrupt communications, navigation and even power grids on Earth.
The work will be carried out under the Ministry of Industry and Technology together with the Turkish Space Agency, TÜBİTAK and universities, with support for research groups and international cooperation.
